[Archived] UPDATE: Alexandria Police Identify Victim in Fatal Crash

The victim in last Thursday’s fatal crash has been identified as Rakesh Bhatt, a 54 year-old Springfield, Virginia man.

Alexandria Police Investigate Fatal Crash at Van Dorn Street and Taney Avenue

Alexandria police are investigating a fatal crash that resulted in the death of motorcyclist.  The incident occurred at approximately 7:07 A.M. on Thursday, June 30, at the intersection of Van Dorn Street and Taney Avenue. 

Initial investigation indicates that the driver of a trash truck was driving north on Van Dorn Street.  The truck was making a right turn when it struck the victim.  Fire and Police personnel were immediately on scene.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Members of the Crash Reconstruction Team are investigating the incident.
