For Immediate Release: June 1, 2011

City to Hold Closing Ceremony for Miracle Baseball League of Alexandria

The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities invite the public to attend the Closing Ceremony for the Inaugural Miracle Baseball League of Alexandria beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 at the Lee Center Field, 1108 Jefferson St.  Started in Georgia in 2001, the Miracle Baseball League Program is a national program designed to provide children and adults with special needs the experience of playing baseball in a safe, non-competitive environment.

The closing ceremony features the presentation of a donation to the City from the Kelly Cares Foundation for the construction of a miracle field in the City of Alexandria, final season game with 30 program participants, face painting, food and beverages.

“The goal for this program was for every participant to have fun and enjoy the experience of being able to play baseball,” said Mac Slover, City Sports Director. “ The overwhelmingly success of the inaugural season is the direct result  of  the support of the Therapeutic Recreation staff, the Miracle League Advisory Board and the countless volunteers who come out each weekend to provide support to the league’s participants.”
