[Archived] City of Alexandria Hosts Olympic Day at the Nannie J. Lee Memorial Recreation Center on Friday, June 17

For Immediate Release: May 23, 2011

The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is hosting an Olympic Day Celebration Event at Nannie J. Lee Memorial Recreation Center, 1108 Jefferson St., on Friday, June 17 at 5 p.m. The celebration features planned sporting activities, a visit from an Olympian, coordinated by the National Recreation and Parks Association, and a performance by NU ERA. Light refreshments provided.

Olympic Day is a worldwide commemoration of Baron Pierre de Coubertin’s June 23, 1894, convening of the first International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting at the Sorbonne in Paris, and the founding of the Modern Olympic Games. National Olympic Committees (NOCs) throughout the world will also participate in the international celebration, with each Olympic Committee sending Olympic Day greetings to participating nations.

The celebration would not be complete without the musical bravado of NU ERA. From Washington DC, this group, comprised of five young men, appeal to all age groups, while singing classic Motown hits to their original music and sound.
