City Manager James K. Hartmann announced the appointment of Thaddeus Jankowski, Jr. as the new Director of Real Estate Assessments. The Director of Real Estate Assessments is responsible for responsible for the administration, plans and programs for appraisal of all taxable real estate in the City. Mr. Jankowski’s appointment is effective April 11. He succeeds former Director Cynthia Smith-Page, who retired last November.
Mr. Jankowski possesses more than 30 years of experience in the field of assessment administration and has held senior positions as a financial professional and municipal government. Most recently, Mr. Jankowski worked as the Nassau County, New York Assessor from 2008-2010. He has also served as Principal in an international consulting practice, providing consulting services both internationally and domestically in the areas of mass appraisal, property valuation, assessment administration, and public finance. Mr. Jankowski distinguished himself as the Commissioner of Assessing for the City of Boston for nine years, overseeing the completion of Boston’s first revaluation in more than 38 years. His assessing milestones include serving as Deputy City Manager & Chief Financial Officer of Portsmouth, NH; where he supervised that City’s first revaluation in over 15 years; and serving as the Chief Assessor/ Assistant to the Mayor for Fiscal Affairs for the City of Newton, MA; Chairman of the Board of Assessors for the Town of Oxford, MA; and Assistant Assessor for the City of Worcester, MA.
A graduate of Boston College, Ted Jankowski is an accredited assessor and the author of the book, Massachusetts Property Revaluation: Taxpayers Rights and Procedures.
