[Archived] Alexandria Fire Department to Take Delivery of Two Peak Time EMS Units.

ALEXANDRIA FIRE DEPARTMENT TO TAKE DELIVERY OF TWO PEAK TIME EMS UNITS.

For immediate release: January 28, 2011

WHEN:           February 2, 2011, 2:00 pm.

WHERE:        George Washington Masonic Temple, 101 Callahan Drive,  Alexandria, VA 22314

WHO:             City Mayor, Elected Officials, Fire Chief Adam Thiel and other City officials

WHAT:           The City of Alexandria will be taking delivery of two new medic units that will be utilized to begin the City's Peak Time Medic Unit Program.  This program is designed to provide additional Advanced Life Support transport capabilities in and around the City of Alexandria during the time when calls for Emergency Medical Service are statistically at their highest.  This will assist in reducing response times to emergencies as well as lessen the City's reliance on surrounding jurisdictions during busy times.

Both of these new medic units are 2010 Horton Emergency Vehicles Internationals.  They are equipped with the latest of EPA certified engines, bacteria resistant surface areas, a keyless entry system for extra security and Horton's Occupant Protection System (HOPS) which is a system of airbags, multi-density cushioning and three point seatbelts designed to help save those that save lives.

These medic units will provide the same high level of care provided by the City's other five 24-hour Advanced Life Support transport units.  They are also painted with the new Alexandria Fire Department apparatus paint scheme providing a new look to the City's Fire and EMS response vehicles.
