Monday, January 17 – City of Alexandria Government Closed
All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Monday, January 17, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday. Commonwealth of Virginia state offices are also closed on Friday, January 14 for Lee-Jackson Day.

Tuesday, January 18 - Alexandria Marketing Fund Application Deadline
Applications are now being accepted through Tuesday, January 18, for the next funding cycle of the Alexandria Marketing Fund, a program administered by the Alexandria Marketing Committee. The Marketing Fund is designed to foster public-private partnerships that develop projects to enhance the long-term marketing priorities of the City; increase awareness and improve the quality of Alexandria’s diverse businesses, promote Alexandria to specific target audiences, and generate additional business sales and tax revenues in Alexandria. Tuesday, January 18 - 2011 Business License Renewal Applications Mailed
The City of Alexandria begins mailing 2011 Business License Renewal Applications to all businesses registered with the City. The renewal application must be submitted and the business license tax paid by March 1, 2011. Any business that does not receive a 2011 renewal application by February 1 should contact Business Tax at businesstax@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.3903.  Taxpayers who have had a change of address and have not previously reported this change to the City should contact Business Tax so that an application can be provided for them prior to the due date.

Wednesday, January 19 – Potomac Yard Design Advisory Committee Meeting
The Potomac Yard Design Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m., Sister Cities Conference Room 1101, City Hall, 301 King Street. They will discuss Potomac Yard Landbays I and J West and Landbay L proposal and receive an introduction to the Landbay L Multifamily Building proposal. Wednesday, January 19 – Arlandria Action Plan Advisory Group Meeting
The Arlandria Action Plan Advisory Group meet to hear presentations from City staff on intersection improvements, Arlandria CIP, Four Mile Run Park expansion, and a possible grant opportunity. Thursday, January 20 - High Capacity Transit Corridor Work Group Meeting
Residents are invited to the High Capacity Transit Corridor Work Group meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Magnolia Ballroom at the Mark Center Hilton Hotel, 5000 Seminary Road. The meeting will focus on the selection of alignment alternatives for the Beauregard /Van Dorn corridor. Use the hotel parking garage and no fee will be charged as long as residents indicate they are going to a City of Alexandria meeting. Residents are invited to participate in a community charrette to consider the existing supply and demand of affordable housing in the City and determine where additional affordable housing at different income levels could be located to fill the current gap in supply. Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2011 Salute to Women Awards.  The awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to improving the lives of women and girls in Alexandria. Commission for the Arts Seeking Volunteers to Serve on Resource Panels
The Alexandria Commission for the Arts is seeking volunteers with experience and interest in dance, literature, music, theatre and visual arts to serve on Resource Panels. Responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating Fiscal Year 2012 grant applications for grantees seeking funding for various arts programs.
