Alexandria's Waterfront is the subject of a City-sponsored Community Open House and Meeting on Monday, December 13, at the Mary M. Gates Learning Center at the United Way of America Building, 701 N. Fairfax Street. The Open House, scheduled from 6 to 6:45 p.m., will feature exhibits regarding several elements of the Waterfront Small Area Plan, including: (1) circulation and parking; (2) the role of history and art; and (3) illustratives of proposed land and water activities. The community meeting, scheduled for 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include a City presentation on various components of the Small Area Plan, presentation of a scale model of plan alternatives, and breakout sessions to gather initial feedback from the public. The City anticipates releasing a written draft of the Waterfront Small Area Plan in January 2011.
This event is just the first phase of the community participation process for the draft Waterfront Small Area Plan. After the draft plan is released, there will be several additional opportunities for the community to provide input prior to the public hearing process in late spring of 2011.
