Wednesday, December 8 - Jones Point Park Construction “Pardon Our Dust” Meeting
The Virginia Department of Transportation and Potomac Crossing Consultants, with participation by the Contractor, Lane Construction, and the National Park Service, will host a Jones Point Park Construction “Pardon Our Dust Meeting” at 7 p.m. at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St.  The purpose of the meeting will be to inform the community about what to expect when construction begins, construction time frames, and to answer questions regarding planned phased construction efforts. Give feedback about Alexandria's transportation priorities and funding options! Monday, December 13 – Alexandria Waterfront Plan Open House
Alexandria's Waterfront is the subject of a City-sponsored Community Open House and Meeting at the United Way World Headquarters, Mary Gates Learning Center, 701 N. Fairfax St. The Open House, scheduled for 6 to 6:45 p.m., will include exhibit stations with graphics and related information on several anticipated components of the  Waterfront Small Area Plan including: (1) circulation and parking; (2) parks and other public spaces; (3) land and water activities;  (4) the role of history and art; and more. The Plenary Meeting, scheduled for 7 to 9:00 p.m., will include a presentation by the City and then breakout sessions to facilitate public input. This event is the initial stage of the community participation process for the draft Waterfront Small Area Plan, anticipated for release in mid-January 2011.  Once the draft plan is released, there will be many opportunities for continued community participation prior to public hearing in mid-Spring 2011.  For more information, please contact Nancy J. Alexandria Marketing Fund Announces Application Deadlines for FY 2011-2012
Applications are now being accepted by the Alexandria Marketing Fund, a program administered by the Alexandria Marketing Committee. The Marketing Fund is designed to foster public-private partnerships that develop projects to enhance the long-term marketing priorities of the City; increase awareness and improve the quality of Alexandria’s diverse businesses, promote Alexandria to specific target audiences, and generate additional business sales and tax revenues in Alexandria. Application deadlines for the FY 2011-2012 funding cycle are Tuesday, January 18, 2011; Tuesday, June 21, 2011; and Tuesday, August 16, 2011. City of Alexandria Commission for the Arts Seeking Volunteers to Serve on Resource Panels
The Alexandria Commission for the Arts is seeking volunteers with experience and interest in dance, literature, music, theatre and visual arts to serve on Resource Panels. Responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating Fiscal Year 2012 grant applications for grantees seeking funding for various arts programs.
