HOLIDAY CONCERTS

Enjoy the music of the season in Alexandria as a break between shopping, on your way to dinner, or just to get in the spirit of the holidays. Holiday concerts are held outdoors and are cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Local performers volunteer their talent to entertain during this festive time. Music featured includes gospel groups, barbershop quartets and chorus, folk music, dramatic presentation, and good old fashioned caroling! Schedules are subject to change without notice. City of Alexandria Commission for the Arts Seeking Volunteers to Serve on Resource Panels
The Alexandria Commission for the Arts is seeking volunteers with experience and interest in dance, literature, music, theatre and visual arts to serve on Resource Panels.  Responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating Fiscal Year 2012 grant applications for grantees seeking funding for various arts programs. CHINQUAPIN PARK RECREATION CENTER 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities invites the public to attend a 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, 3210 King St., on Saturday, December 4 from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Celebration activities include Class Demonstrations; Individual & Family Activities; History of Chinquapin; Awards Ceremony; and Official Welcome by the Honorable Mayor and Members of City Council. WINTER 2011 PROGRAM GUIDE

The Winter 2011 Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Program Guide will be available Monday, December 6 on line at alexandriava.gov/recreation, and printed copies will be received by subscribers the week of December 6. Copies are also available at City recreation centers, libraries and City Hall. Registration for Winter 2011 classes and activities opens at 9 am on Wednesday, December 15 for City residents and Friday, December 17 for nonresidents.


JONES POINT PARK CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The Virginia Department of Transportation and Potomac Crossing Consultants, with participation by the Contractor, Lane Construction, and the National Park Service, will host a Jones Point Park Construction “Pardon Our Dust Meeting” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8 at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St.  The purpose of the meeting will be to inform the community of to expect when construction begins, construction time frames, and to inform and answer questions regarding planned phased construction efforts.
