[Archived] Two Alarm Fire Damages Historic Chapel

At 3:55pm Alexandria Fire Department Units were called to a two alarm fire at the Virginia Theological Seminary located at 3737 Seminary Road.  Firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the Chapel located on the Seminary campus.  A second alarm and subsequent special alarm were dispatched to assist in fighting the fire.  The chapel sustained significant fire damage which included a partial roof collapse.

No injuries were reported during the fire. 

The Chapel, built in 1823, is used daily for worship services.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
