Wednesday, October 27 – ARHA Physical Issue Area Meeting #2
The Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Charles Houston Center, 901 Wythe St., to discuss physical needs and long-term viability of existing ARHA housing. Discussion topics will include the identification of ARHA and external policy issues related to the maintenance of ARHA's supply of affordable housing. Thursday, October 28 – City of Alexandria Housing Master Plan Advisory Group Session #8 
The City of Alexandria Housing Master Plan Advisory Group will continue its discussion of resources related to the creation and preservation of affordable housing. The meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Jefferson Houston Elementary School, 1501 Cameron St. The meeting topic is “Public-private partnership tools to create and preserve affordable housing.”  For more information, contact Carrie Beach at 703.746.3095.

Alexandria’s Second Half Real Estate Tax Bills Mailed
The City of Alexandria has mailed bills for the second half 2010 Real Estate Tax and Refuse Fee to all property owners and mortgage companies.  If you do not receive a real estate tax bill in the mail by November 2 and do not have your real estate tax paid by your mortgage company, please contact the City’s Treasury Division at payments@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.3902. Property owners who changed their mailing address but did not previously report this change to the City should e-mail realestate@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.4646 to ensure that future bills and correspondence are mailed to the correct address. 

City of Alexandria Seeks Comment on Proposal to Name Park to Honor Ruby Tucker
The City of Alexandria is seeking public comment on a proposal to name the park property located at 3500 Jefferson Davis Highway “Ruby Tucker Park” (end of Lynhaven Drive and Jefferson Davis Highway). The proposal was forwarded by the Lynhaven Citizens Association in response to Ruby Tucker’s tireless advocacy for their neighborhood as well as Alexandria’s children and underserved populations. City of Alexandria Seeks Artist Proposals to Exhibit Work in City Galleries
The Alexandria Commission for the Arts and the Office of the Arts seek artist proposals to exhibit their work in one of the City galleries.  Proposals will be accepted from individual artists, consortia of artists, and organizations who work and/or live within the City of Alexandria. All works must be original and only two-dimensional works will be accepted. No entry fee required. The deadline to submit proposals is Wednesday, November 10. Police Memorial Finalists on Display
Police Memorial finalists will be on display at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St.. through Wednesday, October 27. The public is encouraged to view the proposals and add their comments to a notebook that will be located next to the displays or e-mail aca@alexandriava.gov; please write “Police Memorial Comment” in subject line. City of Alexandria in Search of 2010 Holiday Tree
The City of Alexandria is once again in search of a Colorado Blue Spruce, Leyland Cypress or other well-formed evergreen tree, approximately 25 to 35 feet tall, to serve as the City’s official 2010 Holiday Tree. The City will remove the tree from the donor’s property in mid-November and grind the stump at no cost. The tree will be decorated and displayed at Market Square, 301 King St., throughout the holiday season. Persons in the Washington metropolitan area who are interested in donating a tree should call John Noelle, City Arborist, at 703.746.5499 or e-mail john.noelle@alexandriava.gov.
