Saturday, October 9 -- Voter Registration
Are you registered to vote? The legal deadline to register to vote in the November 2 General Election is Tuesday, October 12 at 5 p.m. Mail registration applications must be postmarked on or before October 12. The Voter Registration Office, at 132 N. Wednesday, October 13 – ARHA Social Issue Area Meeting #2
The Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) will hold a meeting at Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School, 435 Ferdinand Day Drive, to discuss security and crime prevention. Discussion topics will include current ARHA security goals and identification of challenges to improving neighborhood security. Thursday, October 14 - Alexandria City Council Work Session with Arlington County Board
The Alexandria City Council will hold a joint work session on transportation issues with the Arlington County Board. Thursday, October 14 – ARHA Economic Issue Area Meeting #1
The Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) will hold a meeting at T.C. Williams Minnie Howard Campus, 3801 W. Braddock Road, to discuss asset enhancement for residents and disadvantaged businesses. The discussion will include current ARHA goals and programs for increasing family assets and identification of challenges to affordable ownership as an option for wealth creation. Saturday, October 16 - Provide Input on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 Budget
The City of Alexandria expects FY 2012 to be another challenging year as it continues to plan strategically for its future. As the budget process begins, the City invites public to provide input regarding the FY 2012 Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Program. On Saturday, October 16, the public is invited to attend City Council’s public hearing to offer comments regarding the upcoming budget and how the City should use its limited financial resources to meet our most important community goals. Alexandria’s Second Half Real Estate Tax Bills Mailed
The City of Alexandria has mailed bills for the second half 2010 Real Estate Tax and Refuse Fee to all property owners and mortgage companies.  If you do not receive a real estate tax bill in the mail by November 2 and do not have your real estate tax paid by your mortgage company, please contact the City’s Treasury Division at payments@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.3902. Property owners who have refinanced in the past year may wish to verify that their current mortgage company has received their real estate tax bill.  Property owners who changed their mailing address but did not previously report this change to the City should contact the Department of Real Estate Assessments at realestate@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.4646 to ensure that future bills and correspondence are mailed to the correct address. 

City of Alexandria Seeks Comment on Proposal to Name Park to Honor Ruby Tucker
The City of Alexandria is seeking public comment on a proposal to name the park property located at 3500 Jefferson Davis Highway “Ruby Tucker Park” (end of Lynhaven Drive and Jefferson Davis Highway). The proposal was forwarded by the Lynhaven Citizens Association in response to Ruby Tucker’s tireless advocacy for their neighborhood as well as Alexandria’s children and underserved populations. Charles Houston Recreation Center Naming Committee Extends Deadline for Nominations
The Ad Hoc Charles Houston Recreation Center Naming Committee, established to honor individuals who made outstanding contributions to Alexandria’s African American community by dedicating recreation center rooms in their honor, has extended the deadline to submit nominations of honorees for a second round of dedications to Wednesday, October 20. Police Memorial Design Finalists on Display
On October 11,  displays of the Police Memorial design finalists will be shown at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St. The public is encouraged to view the proposals and add their comments to a notebook that will be located next to the displays, or send an e-mail to aca@alexandriava.gov with “Police Memorial Comment” in the subject line.
