Tuesday, October 5 – Virginia Paving Company Community Meeting
The Virginia Paving Company will host a community meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Charles E. Beatley Jr. Library Large Meeting Room. The Virginia Paving Company will discuss a recent request that the company made for an administrative minor amendment under Section 11-511 of the zoning ordinance to allow it to use natural gas as a fuel source for operation of the asphalt plant located at 5601 Courtney Avenue. Thursday, October 7 – Housing Master Plan Community Meeting
The City of Alexandria will continue gathering community input as work on the Housing Master Plan moves forward at the next community meeting. Charles Houston Recreation Center Naming Committee Extends Deadline Seeking Nominations
The Ad Hoc Charles Houston Recreation Center Naming Committee, established to honor individuals who made outstanding contributions to Alexandria’s African American community by dedicating recreation center rooms in their honor, has extended the deadline to submit nominations of honorees for a second round of dedications to Wednesday, October 20. Specifically, the Committee seeks nominations of people who participated in the struggle to advance African Americans economically, socially, educationally, and religiously from the 1920s to 1965. Nomination packets may be mailed or dropped off to RPCA, c/o Jack Browand, Division Chief, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria, VA 22314. Provide Input on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 Budget
The City of Alexandria expects FY 2012 to be another challenging year as we continue to plan strategically for the future. As the City begins the budget process, we would like public input regarding the FY 2012 Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Program. Our goal is to link the budget process more closely to the Strategic Plan, adopted by City Council. On Saturday, October 16, the public is invited to attend City Council’s public hearing to offer your comments regarding the upcoming budget and how the City should use its limited resources to meet our most important community goals. Police Memorial Finalists on Display
Police Memorial finalists will be on display at City Hall, 301 King St., through Friday, October 8. On October 11, the displays will be moved to the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St. The public is encouraged to view the proposals and add their comments to a notebook that will be located next to the displays or send an e-mail to aca@alexandriava.gov with “Police Memorial Comment” in the subject line. City of Alexandria in Search of 2010 Holiday Tree
The City of Alexandria is in search of a Colorado Blue Spruce, Leyland Cypress or other well-formed evergreen tree, approximately 25 to 35 feet tall, to serve as the City’s official 2010 Holiday Tree. The City will remove the tree from the donor’s property in mid-November and grind the stump at no cost. The tree will be decorated and displayed at Market Square, 301 King St., throughout the holiday season.
