Charles Houston Recreation Center Naming Committee Seeks Nominations
The Ad Hoc Charles Houston Recreation Center Naming Committee, established to honor individuals who made outstanding contributions to Alexandria’s African American community by dedicating recreation center rooms in their honor, seeks nominations of honorees for a second round of dedications. Specifically, the Committee seeks nominations of people who participated in the struggle to advance African Americans economically, socially, educationally, and religiously from the 1920s to 1965, who have made 1) a doctrinal or technical contribution; 2) an innovation with an identifiable impact on Alexandria's African American community; 3) efforts that were an inspiration to others; or, 4) any combination of the above that records the excellence of their achievements for posterity.

Nomination packets may be mailed or dropped off to RPCA, c/o Jack Browand, Division Chief, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria, VA 22314. City of Alexandria Offers New Walk-In Payment Centers
The City of Alexandria is now partnering with Global Express Bill Payment Centers to offer walk-in payment centers. These centers will allow the public to make cash payments for City parking tickets and some City taxes. This new, free service offers residents, business owners and visitors the convenience of making payments at many Northern Virginia locations. King Street Paving Project
The City of Alexandria is resurfacing King Street, between Columbus Street and the King Street Metro. The scope of the King Street improvement project includes two phases. The first phase began on July 12 and includes curb and gutter repairs and new ADA accessible ramps at crosswalks. The work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for approximately eight weeks. The second phase, which includes milling and paving, will start in mid-September. It is scheduled Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., and will last two to three weeks, weather permitting.
