[Archived] Oil Delivery Mistake Displaces Resident

August 24, 2010

Firefighters responded to a report of home heating oil in a residence in the 1100 block of Colonial Avenue.  A contractor making a delivery of home heating oil connected to an abandoned fill pipe at the wrong address.  Approximately 325 gallons of heating oil was pumped into the basement of the home prior to its discovery.  The home was occupied at the time of the incident.  The majority of the oil went down a floor drain in the basement and into the sanitary sewer system.  No injuries were reported in the incident.  One resident was relocated as a result of the fuel spill.

Clean up contractors were on scene to handle clean up of the remaining product.  The incident remains under investigation.
