The City of Alexandria experienced the loss of hundreds of trees and extensive damage throughout the City as a result of winter snow and summer thunderstorms in 2010. Residents, who want to help replenish the City’s tree canopy, should consider the following opportunities:
- Make a donation to the Living Landscape Fund of Alexandria
The Living Landscape Fund supports the City in realizing its goal of beautification, enhancing open space and maintaining the City’s tree canopy. A donation will contribute to future tree planting in City parkland. Any dollar amount is appropriate and the donation is tax deductible. - Request a street tree through the Street Tree Planting Program
If you have lost a City street tree in front of your home or in your neighborhood, and are interested in having the tree replanted, requests can be made to the Street Tree Planting Program. Requests should include the nearest address and street for the tree, and your contact information. Email requests to city.arborist@alexandriava.gov. - Purchase a tree from the City Tree Sale on October 23
For residents planning to replace trees on private property which were lost or damaged this year, the City Arborist office is sponsoring a tree sale on October 23, 2010 at George Washington Middle School. A variety of trees will be available at a reduced cost, and tree planting services are available at a nominal cost.
