Monday, August 16 - Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) & Electronics Collection and Wheeler Avenue Recycling Drop-off Closed 
The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) & Electronics Collection and Wheeler Avenue recycling drop-off center will be closed on Monday, August 16. Both sites are being moved to 3224 Colvin Street. Both programs will reopen at their new location at Colvin Street on Saturday, August 21. As a reminder, the HHW & Electronic Collection site is open every Monday and Saturday (except holidays) from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The recycling drop-off center is open 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Monday, August 16 – Alexandria Marketing Fund Application Deadline
Applications are due for the Alexandria Marketing Fund, a program administered by the Alexandria Marketing Fund Committee. The fund is designed to increase revenues within the City by fostering public/private partnerships that promote Alexandria as a destination for visiting, shopping, dining and doing business. City Council appropriates monies for the fund on an annual basis and the Alexandria Marketing Fund Committee reviews and approves applications for funding. Tuesday, August 17 – Modern and Sustainable Materials Ad Hoc Work Group
Property owners are invited to attend the next meeting of the Modern Materials Ad Hoc Work Group, which will be held at 7:30 a.m. in the Sister Cities Conference Room 1101, Alexandria City Hall, 301 King St. At the meeting, the group will discuss policy recommendations for appropriate use of modern windows within the historic districts. The Modern Materials Ad Hoc Group was formed at the request of City Council to develop a set of policy recommendations for the appropriate use of modern and sustainable materials within the historic districts, for adoption by the Boards of Architectural Review. King Street Paving Project
The City of Alexandria is resurfacing King Street, between Columbus Street and the King Street Metro. The scope of the King Street improvement project includes two phases. The first phase began on July 12 and includes curb and gutter repairs and new ADA accessible ramps at crosswalks. The work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for approximately eight weeks. The second phase, which includes milling and paving, will start in mid-September. It is scheduled Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., and will last two to three weeks, weather permitting.
