[Archived] Arlington and Alexandria Police Apprehend Suspects

The Arlington County Police Department's Robbery Unit is investigating a robbery that occurred at a hotel last night. At approximately 8:12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, a male suspect entered a hotel in the 2400 block of South Glebe Road. He demanded money while implying that he had a weapon. After receiving cash, the suspect left the scene in a dark red SUV.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., an Arlington County detective sighted the suspect vehicle on eastbound Arlington Boulevard. The vehicle continued to southbound George Washington Parkway. When officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, it accelerated into the City of Alexandria. A U.S. Park Police helicopter responded to the area to assist in tracking the SUV.

The suspect vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle collision with a car containing two passengers in Alexandria. The passengers received non life-threatening injuries. The suspect vehicle ultimately crashed at Cameron Street and North Fairfax Street. Arlington County Police officers detained one suspect at the scene, and a second suspect fled on foot. The second suspect was seen entering Alexandria City Hall.

Police immediately set up a perimeter around the building. Alexandria Police quickly responded and entered the building. An Alexandria Police K-9 unit located the suspect on the third floor at 8:42 p.m., and he was taken into custody. He received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. It was later confirmed the suspect vehicle was stolen in a carjacking out of Maryland earlier in the day.

Further information regarding the identities of the suspects and charges will be released when available. This is an excellent example of a multijurisdictional collaborative effort that resulted in the apprehension of two suspects.
