[Archived] Mirant Health Report Released for Public Comment

On July 12, 2010, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a part of the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), released for public comment their health consultation report on the Mirant Potomac River Generating Station. ATSDR conducted an assessment and produced this report at the request of the Alexandria Health Department and the Virginia Department of Health after an initial assessment of air releases raised public health concerns regarding potential exposures to 5-minute-peak sulfur dioxide (S02) concentrations for sensitive persons. This document will provide ASTDR's analysis of data from ambient air sampling conducted in 2007 for sulfur dioxide peaks, particulate matter, and selected metals in ambient air collected near the Mirant facility.

ASTDR plans to hold a public meeting to discuss their findings on Thursday, July 29, at 7:00 PM at The Lyceum. After public comment has been received by ASTDR, a final health consultation document will be produced that will include public comment responses.
