This month, the Alexandria City Council voted to increase fees in several City departments. The increases were made in response to the City’s current economic challenges, the need to meet Fiscal Year 2011 budget goals and the increased cost of providing these services to residents and the public.
These increases, which will be effective on July 1 (except for the paratransit fare increase beginning August 1), include:
- Parking meter rates: from $1.00 to $1.75 per hour, in all parking zones
- A $5 fee increase for City trash and recycling collection for residents who receive these services, for the acquisition of new and improved recycling bins
- DOT fares for paratransit residents (effective August 1):
- From $2.50 to $3 for trips within the City and up to 5 miles outside the City
- From $2.50 to $5 per trip for trips over 5 miles outside the City.
- Parking meter violations: from $35 to $40
- Towing, impound service charge, and impound lot storage:
- Towing charge: from $100 to $125
- Impound lot storage: from $30/day to $40/day
- Impound service fee: from $70 to $80
- Resident parking permit fee increases: $30 for the first vehicle; $40 for the second vehicle; and $100 for each additional vehicle
- Excavation, right-of-way permit, and reserved parking fees:
- Excavation permit fee: increased from $150 to $200 per permit
- Right-of-Way permits fees: increased from $45 to $100 per permit
- Reserved parking fee for non-metered spaces, increased from $10 to $20 per space/per day
