Sail away on the “Love Boat” at Alexandria’s seventh annual Fostering the Future Cruise! Purchase your ticket to come aboard the Cherry Blossom riverboat in Old Town Alexandria on Wednesday, June 23, for a wonderful evening of TropRock music, dance, food and drinks. All proceeds from the event, which is hosted by the Advisory Council of The Fund for Alexandria’s Child at the Department of Human Services, benefit Alexandria’s most vulnerable children—those in foster care or who are at risk of abuse and neglect.
WJLA Channel 7 newscaster (and Alexandria resident) Pamela Brown will kick off the festivities at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception at the dock at Cameron and Union Streets, behind the Torpedo Factory Art Center. At 7:30 p.m., guests will board the Cherry Blossom for dinner, dancing and cruising on the Potomac until 9:30 p.m. Attire is nautical or casual, and tickets are $75 per person (adults only, please).
Guests will enjoy food from a variety of local restaurants and be entertained by music from the Nautical Wheelers and the Michael George One-Man Steel Drum Band. Hors d’oeuvres include a selection of appetizers from Bittersweet, Taqueria Poblano, Evening Star, Chart House, Chadwicks, Bombay Curry Company and Joe Theismann's. Mango Mike’s new barbeque restaurant, the Pork Barrel, will provide a full buffet with specialty drinks, sodas, beer and wine included. The SnackShak by Bittersweet and Whole Foods Market will top off the evening with a selection of desserts.
In addition to the food and entertainment, a silent auction will feature premium Redskins and Nationals tickets, restaurant certificates, beauty treatments and much more! A raffle for a 15-inch Gateway laptop with printer or an iPod Touch, donated by Best Buy Landmark, will also be offered. The Cruise sponsors include R & B Heating and Air Conditioning; the Goodhart Group at McEnearney Associates; Potomac Riverboat Company; Dominion Dental Services; Corbin Company; Adolescent and Family Growth Center; Carter, Land, Carroll, Mendelson and Blair; Donald Hoffman; McEnearney Associates Old Town; Jennifer Walker, at McEnearney; Los Tios Grill; Patricia Doyle; Rob and Callie MacKenzie; Joe and Suellen Savukas; Catherine Joyce; Mary Newhouse; Alexandria Hyundai; Landmark Honda; Family Advocacy Center; United Bank; Dominion Hospital; Monument Title Company; and ASAP Printing and Graphics.
The Fund for Alexandria’s Child provides money for enriching activities for children in foster care or at risk of abuse and neglect when there are no funds available from any other source. The money raised by The Fund pays for such items and activities as scout uniforms, club dues, sports equipment, karate or art lessons, class field trips, prom dresses, graduation fees, community college books, camping, and many others that make a child’s life richer. To reserve tickets or obtain more information about sponsorship, call Suzanne Kratzok at 703.746.5663 or e-mail thefundforalexchild@alexandriava.gov.
