[Archived] Two-Alarm Fire Claims Family Pets and Hospitalizes One Occupant

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, Alexandria Fire Department units responded to a two-alarm fire at an apartment building located at 501 Slaters Lane. The fire was located in a third floor apartment. Firefighters forced entry into the apartment and rescued one adult male occupant. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to one apartment.

The adult male occupant was taken to Washington Hospital Center for treatment of smoke inhalation and subsequently transferred to University of Maryland Shock Trauma for advanced care. Two small dogs perished as a result of the fire.
