[Archived] Transit Management of Alexandria (DASH) Employee Charged With Embezzlement

The Alexandria Police Department has charged former Transit Management of Alexandria (DASH) employee Jean Stokes, 50, with one count of embezzlement. Stokes is charged with embezzling approximately $30,000 from her position as the former manager of the Old Town Transit Shop. Stokes resigned from her position on January 25, 2010.

Upon Stokes resignation, an Alexandria Police and internal investigation was immediately initiated into missing money from the Old Town Transit Shop daily deposits. Stokes turned herself into the Alexandria Police Department on Sunday, March 21.

The City of Alexandria has also hired Robinson, Farmer and Cox of Charlottesville, VA, an external public accounting firm, to conduct an immediate audit and review of the Old Town Transit Shop’s financial transactions and accounting.
