[Archived] City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 18

All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Monday, January 18, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday.

Health Facilities: The Alexandria Health Department, 4480 King St. and the Flora Krause Casey Health Center, 1200 N. Howard St., will be closed on January 15 and January 18, and no H1N1 vaccinations will be offered on those days. The Adolescent Health Center, 3701 W. Braddock Road, will be closed on January 18.

Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline, 703.838.0800, the domestic violence hotline, 703.838.4911, the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline, 703.746.3401, and the sexual assault hotline, 703.683.7273.

Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches will be closed on January 18.

Parking: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, HOV regulations, residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits on January 18.   

Recreation Centers: The Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on January 18. Charles Barrett, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, Mount Vernon, Nannie J. Lee, Patrick Henry, and William Ramsay recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on January 18. The Jerome "Buddie" Ford Nature Center will be closed on January 18-19.

Refuse Collection: Residential refuse and recycling will not be collected on January 18. Collection services will be delayed by one day during the week of January 18. The Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collections Drop-off Center will be closed on January 18.

Schools: All Alexandria City Public Schools and administrative offices will be closed on January 18.

State Offices: The following Commonwealth of Virginia offices located in Alexandria will be closed on January 15 and January 18: the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts, and the DMV Office on 2681 Mill Rd.

Transit: Alexandria Transit Company’s DASH bus service will operate on a Saturday schedule on January 18.
