FY 2011 Budget Process
The City of Alexandria expects Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 to be another challenging year based on early economic forecasts. As the City begins the budget process, we would like your input regarding the FY 2011 Operating Budget and Capitol Improvement Program. Residents are encouraged to submit their comments online at alexandriava.gov/Budget.
Monday, November 16 – Alexandria’s Second Half Real Estate Tax Due
The City of Alexandria reminds property owners that the second half 2009 Real Estate Tax and Refuse Fee payments are due November 16. The Finance Department urges Alexandria property owners to avoid waiting in line by visiting alexandriava.gov/Payments to pay by eCheck, automatic bank debit or credit card; using the online service alexandriava.gov/Finance; mailing a check or money order to the Treasurer’s Office, P.O. Box 34750; dropping off a check or money order at the drop box located on the Royal Street side of City Hall; or visiting any SunTrust Bank branch located in the City by 5 p.m. on November 16. If you have not received a bill in the mail and do not have your real estate tax paid by your mortgage company, contact the City’s Treasury Division at payments@alexandriava.gov, or call 703.746.3902 to request a duplicate bill. Tuesday, November 17 – Strategic Planning Public Forum on Land Use and Economic Development

Tuesday, November 17 – Potomac Yard Planning Advisory Group
The Potomac Yard Planning Advisory Group meeting will be held in Sister Cities Room 1101, City Hall, 301 King St., from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Potomac Yard Planning Advisory Group was established by City Council to identify and study the issues, challenges and opportunities presented by the redevelopment of Potomac Yard. Wednesday, November 18 – BRAC Advisory Committee Meeting
The BRAC Advisory Committee will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Burke Branch Library, 4701 Seminary Rd. City Council created the BRAC Advisory Committee to serve as a forum for developing ideas and recommendations relating to transportation improvements and other issues associated with the BRAC-133 office building. Wednesday, November 18 – 2010 Census Complete Count Committee Meeting
The 2010 Census Complete Count Committee Meeting will convene at 7 p.m. in Room 2000, City Hall, 301 King St. City Council established a Complete Count Committee to help develop a strategy to ensure an accurate count and promote participation by all residents in the 2010 Census. Thursday, November 19- Public Hearing on Recommendations For New and Increased Fees for Programs and Services
The City of Alexandria's Park and Recreation Commission will hold a public hearing for staff to present recommendations on new and increased fees for programs and services provided by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. The public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St. Individuals who are unable to attend the public hearing can view the fee recommendations at alexandriava.gov/Recreation on Friday, November 20, and send written comments to the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, Attention: William Chesley, 1108 Jefferson St., or e-mail william.chesley@alexandriava.gov. The deadline to submit comments is 5 p.m. on Friday, December 4.
