Tuesday, November 3 – Virginia General Election
The Alexandria Office of Voter Registration and Elections reminds voters who wish to vote in Virginia’s General Election that voting hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 3. The Ballot will include the Offices of Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Virginia House of Delegates, Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney, and Sheriff. Wednesday, November 4 – Public Forum on City’s Strategic Goal for Development and Economic Vitality
The City of Alexandria will host a public forum on the strategic goal for development and economic vitality from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Room 2000, City Hall, 301 King St. The forum is part of a broader review of the City's Strategic Plan by the City Council. Thursday, November 5 – Transportation Meeting
Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, CSX Transportation, VRE and AMTRAK will host a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Alexandria Transportation and Environmental Services Operations Building, 2900 Business Center Dr., to discuss a railroad construction project in Alexandria. The project includes removing the 100-year old, single track railroad bridge over Norfolk Southern tracks, located near 4500 Wheeler Ave. adjacent to Cameron Run Park, and replacing it with a new double-track railroad bridge. Saturday, November 7 – Fort Ward Park History Group Meeting
Interested participants are invited to the Fort Ward Park History Group meeting at Fort Ward Museum, 4301 W. Braddock Rd., from 10 a.m. to noon. Workgroup members are recording family history, identifying features such as graves, documenting historical photographs including family and landscape images, and other projects related to the history of the site and in particular, to the African-American community that existed at Fort Ward. Monday, November 16 – Alexandria’s Second Half Real Estate Tax Due
The City of Alexandria reminds property owners that the second half 2009 Real Estate Tax and Refuse Fee payments are due November 16. The Finance Department urges Alexandria property owners to avoid waiting in line by visiting www.alexandriava.gov/payments to pay by eCheck, automatic bank debit or credit card; using the online service alexandriava.gov/finance; mailing a check or money order to the Treasurer’s Office, P.O. Box 34750; dropping off a check or money order at the drop box located on the Royal Street side of City Hall; or visiting any SunTrust Bank branch located in the City by 5 p.m. on November 16. The City of Alexandria has mailed bills for the second half 2009 Real Estate Tax and Refuse Fee to all property owners and mortgage companies. If you do not receive a real estate tax bill in the mail by November 2 and do not have your real estate tax paid by your mortgage company, please e-mail payments@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.3902. Property owners who changed their mailing address but did not previously report this change to the City should e-mail realestate@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.4646 to ensure that future bills and correspondence are mailed to the correct address.
