UPDATE:  Alexandria Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

Alexandria Police have charged Melchizedek Wynnel, 49, of Washington, DC, in connection with the bank robbery yesterday from the Wachovia Bank located at 3624 King Street.  Wynnel was charged with one count of robbery, two counts of abduction by force, three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of entering a bank armed with the intent to commit larceny.  He is being held without bond at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center.

Wynnel is also a suspect in a bank robbery that occurred in Arlington County on September 28.  If you need more information about that robbery please refer to the Arlington County Police Department.

Alexandria Police Investigate Bank Robbery at Wachovia Bank Located on King Street

Alexandria Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred today at the Wachovia bank, located at 3624 King Street.  Around 10:19 A.M., a man walked into the bank, approached the teller and brandished a firearm.  The suspect demanded money, took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the bank.  No one was injured.

Police searched the area and K-9 units ran a track. A person of interest was taken into custody for questioning.  The investigation is ongoing.

T.C. Williams High School, T.C. Williams Minnie Howard and Francis Hammond Middle School were placed on lock down as a precaution.  The schools remained on lock down for about an hour.
