Saturday, September 26 – Alexandria City Council Hosts Strategic Plan Public Meeting
The City of Alexandria invites residents to join Mayor William D. Euille and members of the Alexandria City Council for a public meeting to discuss the City’s strategic plan. The meeting will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the T&ES and Recreation Maintenance Operation Facilities, 2900 Business Center Drive. Residents are encouraged to review the strategic plan and offer their comments online at www.alexandriava.gov/StrategicPlanning.
Sunday, September 27 – Washington Street Paving Project Continues
Phase II of the Washington Street Paving project will begin Sunday, September 27. The paving of North and South Washington Street will be done at night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and it is estimated to continue to the end of October. Tuesday, September 29 – Waterfront Plan Community Meeting

Tuesday, September 29 & Thursday, October 1 – Extended Business Hours
In light of the upcoming October 5 deadline for the payment of Vehicle Personal Property and Business Personal Property Taxes, Finance Department offices in City Hall, 301 King St., will remain open until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29 and Thursday, October 1. All services related to these taxes—including billing, account adjustment and payment processing—will be available during that time.
Wednesday, September 30 – Public Hearing on the Naming of Charles Houston Recreation Center’s Gymnasium and Pool
The City of Alexandria invites residents to a public hearing to review and receive comment on a proposal to name the Charles Houston Recreation Center gymnasium and pool in honor of African Americans in Alexandria. The individuals who have been recommended played a significant role in the struggle for equal educational opportunity from 1920 to 1965. The City of Alexandria’s submissions deadline from artists for the Charles Hamilton Houston Memorial is Thursday, October 1, at 4 p.m. The Memorial will be located at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St. The anticipated installation date of the Charles Hamilton Houston Memorial is April 2011. The Mirant Community Monitoring Group and Department of Environmental Quality extend an invitation for public input for the proposed windscreens for the coal pile at the Mirant Potomac River Generating Station. The Alexandria City Council invites the general public to attend its regularly scheduled public hearing to offer comments regarding the FY 2011 budget. The public hearing will be held in City Council Chambers (Room 2400), 301 King St., beginning at 9:30 a.m. Due to the difficult economic conditions the City faces, residents are encouraged to take advantage of an early opportunity to present their views and priorities directly to City Council and City staff.

Call for Artists for Alexandria Police Memorial
The City of Alexandria has issued a Call for Artists for the Alexandria Police Memorial at the Alexandria Police Department headquarters, 3534 Wheeler Ave., currently under construction. The City is conducting the search for qualified applicants through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ.)
