Monday, September 7 – City of Alexandria Government Offices Closed
All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Friday, September 11 – 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
The City of Alexandria invites the public to pause, remember, and reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001 in a remembrance ceremony. The ceremony will honor those who bravely responded during the crisis, and celebrate the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The City of Alexandria will also highlight the this year’s national theme of “Service to Community” by recognizing members from the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way, and Volunteer Alexandria. Call for Artists for Charles Hamilton Houston Memorial
The City of Alexandria has announced a Call for Artists for the Charles Hamilton Houston Memorial to be located at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St. The City will conduct the search for qualified applicants through a Request for Qualifications. The deadline for submission is October 1, 2009, at 4 p.m. EDT. The anticipated installation date of the Charles Hamilton Houston Memorial is April 2011. Call for Artists Announced for Alexandria Police Memorial
The City of Alexandria is announcing a Call for Artists for the Alexandria Police Memorial, which will be located at the Alexandria Police Department headquarters currently under construction at 3534 Wheeler Ave. The City will conduct the search for qualified applicants through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ The deadline for applications is October 30, 2009, at 4 p.m. EDT.
