Monday, August 17 – Public Information Session for On-Site Assessment of Sheriff’s Office
The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office will undergo an on-site assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). As part of the on-site assessment, Sheriff’s Office employees, members of the community and the media are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, August 17 at 3 pm. in Courtroom #3 of the Alexandria Courthouse, 520 King St. Individuals may submit comments anonymously by calling 703.746.4351 on Sunday, August 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. All comments are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with the Commission’s standards. A copy of the standards is available for review at the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office’s two locations:  2003 Mill Rd. and 520 King St. For more information, contact Commander Mondre’ Kornegay at 703.746.5009 or e-mail mondre.kornegay@alexandriava.gov.

Monday, August 17 – Deadline for Alexandria Marketing Fund Applications
Applications are now being accepted for the Alexandria Marketing Fund, a program administered by the Alexandria Marketing Committee. The program is designed to foster projects that enhance the long-range marketing priorities of the City; increase awareness, while expanding the quality, of Alexandria’s diverse retail, dining, hospitality, cultural attractions and other businesses; promote Alexandria to specific target audiences, including residents and visitors; and generate additional business sales and tax revenues in Alexandria. Call for Artists Announced for Charles Hamilton Houston Memorial
The City of Alexandria is announcing a Call for Artists for the Charles Hamilton Houston Memorial to be located at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St. The City will conduct the search for qualified applicants through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ). The deadline for submission is October 1, 2009, at 4 p.m. EDT. The anticipated installation date of the Charles Hamilton Houston Memorial is April 2011.
