On Saturday, June 27, the Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille, the City of Alexandria, Alexandria Health Department and Northern Virginia HIV Prevention and Education Committee will host a rally in recognition of National HIV Testing Day. The rally serves as part of the National Association of People With AIDS (NAPWA) “Mayors Against HIV” initiative.

The rally begins at noon at Mt. Vernon Community Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave. The event will include special guest speaker, Jose Ramirez, coordinator of Youth Empowerment programs at D.C.’s La Clinica del Pueblo; Luis Mundo, reggaeton performer; and a proclamation reading and presentation by Mayor Euille. Staff from the Alexandria Health Department and members of the Northern Virginia HIV Consortium’s Prevention and Education Committee will provide free confidential HIV counseling, testing, and other assistance for the afternoon.

Members of the committee include staff from the Arlington and Fairfax County Health Departments, AIDS Response Effort, INOVA Juniper Program, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington DC, Inc., Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC), K. I. Services and Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry (NOVAM).
