[Archived] Office and Residential Towers Planned Near Eisenhower Metro Station

For Immediate Release: June 22, 2009

More Information:

Alexandria’s Eisenhower Valley skyline is a step closer to including a dramatic new project—the Eisenhower Gateway. This cutting-edge project features four towers that exhibit innovative rooftop accents such as wind turbines, which provide energy for the buildings. Lane Development is planning to build two 15-story office buildings and two 22-story residential towers one block from the Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station and adjacent to the Capital Beltway. The Alexandria City Council approved the site plan for the project at a public hearing on June 13.

Located at 2250 and 2200 Mill Road, the Eisenhower Gateway project will include more than one million square feet of development with a contemporary appeal. The project will include more than two acres of publicly accessible open space, and one acre of it will be dedicated as public parkland in the Eisenhower Park system. As part of the development, three new streets will be constructed, contributing to an urban street grid with new sidewalks and street parking. Approximately 30,000 square feet within the residential buildings will be set aside for affordable rental or for-sale units.

Eisenhower Gateway will also be one of the first projects to participate in the City’s recently approved Green Building Policy. The residential portion will seek to attain the LEED Certified level, and the office development will aim to achieve LEED Silver.

Lane Development, based in Binghamton, New York, has recently built three buildings along John Carlyle Street and Jamieson Avenue in Alexandria’s Carlyle district.
