[Archived] City Holds Public Hearing on Moving City Council, School Board Elections

May 29, 2009

News Highlights:

More Information:

The Alexandria City Council will hold a public hearing at its meeting on Saturday, June 13, at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall, (301 King St.) to receive comments on a proposal to move City Council and School Board elections from May to November, beginning in 2012.

The proposed ordinance would make no other changes to the electoral process (such as changing the length of Council or School Board terms, or staggering elections), since any other change would require the General Assembly to approve an amendment to the City Charter.

Information on the proposed ordinance, and a copy of it, can be found at http://dockets.alexandriava.gov/fy09/051609ph/di6.pdf

Following the public hearing, the Council will take final action on the proposed ordinance.
