[Archived] Bureau of Economic Analysis Ranks City 12th in Per Capita Personal Income

Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Economic Analysis released estimates of local personal income for 2007. The estimates show that of 3,111 U.S. counties/cities, the City of Alexandria ranked 12th, ahead of Arlington County (13th), Fairfax County, Fairfax City and Falls Church (14th), and Montgomery County, MD (15th). The City also ranked first in per capita personal income in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Per capita personal income is the personal income of residents of a given area divided by the resident population of the area. In computing per capita personal income, the Bureau of Economic Analysis uses the Census Bureau’s annual midyear population estimates.
