Center for Alexandria’s Children Recognizes National Child Abuse Prevention Month
Open House and Safety ID Kits for Children
In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and to help provide greater safety for children, the Center for Alexandria’s Children (CAC), a public-private partnership for children and parents, will host an open house on Friday, April 17, from noon to 5 p.m. The CAC is located at 1900 N. Beauregard St., Suite 200.
The CAC, in partnership with the City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Police Department, will provide families the opportunity to obtain SafeAssured Digital ID kits for their children and to learn about community resources that enhance child well-being in the City. The SafeAssured Digital ID kits will be made available free of charge through the support of the German Embassy Barclub.
The ID kits consist of a mini-CD containing the child’s fingerprints, voice sample, and video showing movement and gait; a photo data card; and a guide with tips for staying safe. SafeAssured Kits will be created for 250 Alexandria children. Families who cannot attend the open house can also make appointments by calling the Center for Alexandria's Children at 703.838.4381, ext. 495. Appointments will be available every Thursday afternoon in April.
At the open house, representatives from City agencies and other community partners will provide information on child abuse prevention and community resources for parents and children. Light refreshments will be served and children's activities will be available.
The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City's Human Rights Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation or to request materials in an alternative format, call 703.838.4381 (TTY/TDD 703 838-5056). Please allow a 24-hour notice.
