Alexandria Police to Receive New Bait Car from Allstate Insurance

The Alexandria Police Department will be the recipient of a new bait car donated by Allstate Insurance Company.  The new car will be donated during a presentation on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place at Market Square, located in front of City Hall, at 301 King Street.  Dave Prendergast, Allstate Field Vice President, will be present to hand over the keys of the car to Chief David P. Baker and the Alexandria Police Department.

Alexandria Police reported 376 auto thefts in 2006 and 373 in 2007.  The vehicle provided will be outfitted with advanced technology in an effort to help reduce auto thefts and to deter potential criminal activity in Alexandria.

The actual bait car will not be seen.  However, a demo bait car will be used to demonstrate how this tool is used to successfully catch car thieves in action.

The media is invited and encouraged to attend this presentation and see first hand the demo bait car in action.  Attendees will be allowed to break into the car and see first-hand the capabilities of this advanced technology and how criminals can be caught remotely.

Representatives from Alexandria Police, Allstate Insurance and other City Officials will be on hand for interviews.
