Indictment Made in Juantissa Hill Homicide

Earlier today, a grand jury for the Circuit Court for the City of Alexandria returned an indictment charging Rodney Eric Smith, 31, with first degree murder, forcible sodomy, robbery, and grand larceny in connection with the death of Juantissa Hill.  Ms. Hill, 24, was found dead in her apartment in the 300 block of South Van Dorn Street on December 2, 2008, after co-workers voiced concern that she had not arrived for work that morning.  Police Department detectives worked with the Naval Criminal Investigative Section (NCIS) throughout their investigation.

Mr. Smith is currently incarcerated.  He is serving a sentence in another state for an unrelated charge, and is also wanted for failing to appear on other charges in a third state.     The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office will initiate appropriate legal proceedings to obtain custody of Mr. Smith so he can be brought to Virginia to stand trial.  Interstate transfer of inmates is governed by the Interstate Agreement on Detainers, and proceedings under this agreement could take several months to complete.
