[Archived] Alexandria Fire Department Responds to a House Fire at 5227 Seminary Road

At approximately 1:39 pm, Tuesday, February 24, 2009, units from the Alexandria Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 5227 Seminary Road. First arriving units encountered heavy black smoke emanating from the attic area of the dwelling. A second alarm was requested by the incident commander due to the amount of smoke and fire in the structure. An aggressive interior fire attack was initiated, bringing the fire under control and containing it to attic area. Fairfax and Arlington Fire departments rendered mutual aide. Seminary Road was blocked from N Beauregard to Dawes Ave for a short time, during fire operations.

The residents of the affected home self-evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival. Two families living in the home were displaced. The American Red Cross relocated one family of three, two adults and one child.  Additionally,  three patients  evaluated on the scene by EMS personnel refused transport to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is determined to be accidental in nature. Damage to the dwelling is estimated at $75,000.
