FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 11, 2009

Application Deadline March 16; Prospective Grantee Workshop to be Held February 20

Applications are now being accepted for the Alexandria Marketing Fund, a program administered by the Alexandria Marketing Committee.

The program, reinvigorated in October 2007 by the Alexandria City Council, is designed to encourage public-private partnerships that promote the City as a destination for visiting, shopping, dining and doing business. City Council appropriates monies for the fund on an annual basis and the Marketing Committee reviews and approves applications for funding. For more information or to apply, visit alexandriava.gov/marketingfund. The deadline for applications is Monday, March 16.

An informal workshop for prospective grantees will be held Friday, February 20, from 8 to 11:00 a.m. at City Hall, 301 King St., in Sister Cities Room 1101. The workshop will provide an opportunity for prospective grantees to network, discuss their ideas and strategies, and to meet with members of the Marketing Fund Committee and the Marketing Fund Coordinating Council. Participation in the workshop is free; however, space is limited and registration is required to attend. To register for the workshop, contact Kilo Grayson at 703.838.4300 or Kilo.Grayson@alexandriava.gov by close of business on Wednesday, February 18.

The Alexandria Marketing Fund is designed to foster projects that enhance the long-range marketing priorities of the City; increase awareness, while expanding the quality, of Alexandria’s diverse retail, dining, hospitality, cultural attractions and other businesses; promote Alexandria to specific target audiences, including residents and visitors; and to generate additional business sales and tax revenues in Alexandria.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City’s Human Rights Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation or to request materials in an alternative format, contact Andrea Blackford at 703.519.3489 or andrea.blackford@alexandriava.gov (TTY 703.838.5056) Requests for reasonable accommodations should be placed at least 48 hours in advance.
