Hosts Nation’s Largest George Washington Day Parade
On Monday, February 16, the City will celebrate the 277th birthday of its most famous citizen by holding the largest George Washington birthday parade in the United States. Many streets George Washington once walked will be shut down for the parade, which begins at 1 p.m. at the intersection of Wilkes Street and South St. Asaph Street. The parade route is as follows:
The reviewing stand is on the west side of Royal Street at Cameron Street. Access for people with disabilities is located across from the reviewing stand on the east side of Royal Street at Cameron Street; accessible parking is available on Cameron Street between North Royal Street and North Fairfax Street.
The George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee and the City of Alexandria are hosting a variety of events to honor the Alexandrian described by Henry Lee as “first in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen.” These events include:
