[Archived] Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka Appointed To Virginia Board of Education

On Monday, February 2, Governor Timothy M. Kaine appointed Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka to the Virginia Board of Education.

The Board of Education serves as the primary advocate for a quality education for all children and youth in Virginia. The board seeks to promote excellence in the education of all students and is responsible for policies that promote educational quality throughout the state. In this capacity, the board defines the fundamental mission of the state’s education system and develops the system’s long-range goals. In order to meet these goals, the board enacts appropriate regulations, supports local implementation efforts, and regularly measures the performance of the system.

“I am excited about this opportunity to serve the state of Virginia and to contribute to the advancement of education as we prepare our state to compete in the global economy,” said Krupicka. “I am looking forward to continuing my strong advocacy for the power of education, and more specifically, for ensuring that Virginia's children show up for kindergarten ready to learn.”

Krupicka is a member of several task forces, work groups and organizations dedicated to Virginia’s youth and their ultimate success in life. He is chair of the Governor’s School Readiness Task Force; chair of the Virginia Safe Routes to School Network; and a member of the Governor’s Working Group on Early Childhood Initiatives. In Alexandria, he is a member of the City-School Coordinating Committee, board advisor to the Alexandria Child and Family Network Center, a board member of the Campagna Center, and a member of the Mt. Vernon Elementary School PTA. He is a past member of Governor Kaine’s Start Strong Council; past member of the Council of Governments Human Services Committee; past co-chair and member of Alexandria’s Gang Task Force; and past member of Alexandria’s Youth Policy Commission.
