Alexandria Police Resolve Barricade Incident on Waple Lane

Alexandria Police have resolved a barricade incident that occurred in the 5000 block of Waple Lane.

Today, around 11:00 A.M., officers were called to the area for reports of shots fired.  Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from gun shot wounds.  The victim was transported to a local hospital and is listed in serious, but stable condition.

Despite the urging of police officials, the suspect refused to leave his residence.  Officers secured the area.  The residents in the houses in the Cameron Station area were warned to stay in their homes and nearby Samuel Tucker Elementary School was temporarily placed on lockdown.  Alexandria Special Operations Team (SOT), Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT), and K-9 Units responded to the scene.

At approximately 10:45 P.M., officers heard a gun shot come from the suspect’s residence.  Entry was made and the suspect was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound.   No shots were fired by police.  The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
