[Archived] Highrise Condominium Fire

At approximately 4:50 p.m Monday November 17, 2008, Alexandria Fire and EMS units responded to a report of fire in a highrise located at 6300 Stevenson Ave. Fire department personnel upon arrival observed no visible smoke or fire.

Fire personnel determined the location of the fire and forced entry into a second floor unoccupied but furnished unit. Fire crews performed an aggressive attack and contained the fire to the kitchen area. The fifteen-floor highrise condominium building was equipped with a sprinkler system in the common areas only. The affected unit was not equipped with a sprinkler system. Smoke detectors were present

No injuries to building occupants or to fire personnel were reported. The lobby of 6301 Stevenson Ave was utilized as a temporary shelter, due to weather conditions. Damage to condominium unit is set at $250,000.00. Total damage estimate has not yet been determined. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
