At its November 25 legislative meeting, the Alexandria City Council voted to approve an ordinance establishing a pilot program to allow restaurant and retail-oriented businesses in the Central Business District (Old Town) not located on King Street to place a consolidated sign at their specified King Street corner. The pilot program is effective immediately through March 15, 2009.
To determine eligibility and sign placement, businesses can access additional information about the program online at alexandriava.gov/planning. The Web site includes information on the parameters of the proposed pilot program, a map showing the location of eligible businesses and where signs may be placed, an example of a temporary portable sign design, and a permit application and checklist. A sign template is available by request to facilitate sign production.
Alexandria businesses that want to install temporary portable signs must submit permit applications to the Permit Center, located on the fourth floor of Alexandria City Hall, 301 King Street.
