U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Duke Realty Corporation to Host Community Meeting on Planned Mark Center Development

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Duke Realty Corporation have invited residents to a community meeting on Thursday, December 4, at 7 p.m., to present information about the planned development at Mark Center to accommodate the relocation of various Department of Defense (DoD) agencies to the Alexandria Mark Center. The meeting will be held at the William Ramsay Elementary School, 5700 Sanger Ave. The meeting will begin with an open house at 6:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation and a question and answer period. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers  and Duke Realty Corporation will provide information on the buildings and site layout, present a construction schedule, and discuss plans to accommodate additional traffic resulting from the DoD relocation.

Earlier this fall, the Department of the Army announced that the City of Alexandria’s Mark Center was chosen as the future site for the DoD activities. The Mark Center site, owned by Duke Realty Corporation, was chosen through a regional competitive procurement managed by the Army. As a result of this decision, 6,400 jobs will relocate from Arlington County to Alexandria as part of the federally mandated Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, and a portion of Mark Center will become a part of Fort Belvoir once construction is completed.

The City has begun to work cooperatively with Duke Realty Corporation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the goal of achieving quality building architecture and that the proposed DoD facility’s transportation infrastructure and transit services can effectively serve the DoD site. The new DoD headquarters will be a LEED Silver-level certified facility, featuring increased transit services at a new Transportation Center for DoD, Mark Center employees, and Alexandria residents to use.
