AlexandriaPolice Promote Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety

In an effort to promote bicycle and pedestrian safety, the Alexandria Police Department, together with Transportation and Environmental Services, will be conducting a Bicycle/Pedestrian/Vehicle Education Campaign beginning October 24. This awareness campaign seeks to encourage all riders, pedestrians and vehicles to be mindful of both City and State laws in Alexandria.

Both agencies will hold a bicycle education event on October 24 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on October 25 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. in the area of King and Union Streets. Bicycle trained officers will be on hand to answer questions about bicycle safety and offer maintenance and bicycle upkeep information to ensure the proper care of a bicycle. Maps, safety brochures, bottled water and other give-away items will also be handed out.

In response to an increase in the number of bicycle and pedestrian law violations in Alexandria, the Police Department will be increasing the enforcement of bicycle and pedestrian violations on November 14 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and November 15 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Officers will be posted along local bike paths and streets and will be strictly enforcing all City and State Code laws.
