Free Seminar Offers Information on Autism and Early Intervention

The increase in autism diagnoses across the United States has raised concern among parents and child caregivers about detecting warning signs for it. These concerns will be addressed at a “red flag” seminar, “Putting the Pieces Together for Autism,” for parents, caregivers and professionals who work with children on Tuesday, October 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2932 King St.

Dr. Colleen A. Kraft, M.D., will lead a discussion among professionals who will identify the red flags or warning signals for autism and explain the role of early intervention for children from birth to age five. Dr. Kraft is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, current President of the Virginia American Academy of Pediatrics, and Virginia Professor of Community Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University

The program will include free language interpretation, free dinner, free childcare and assistance with transportation for those who register by Tuesday, September 30. The event is sponsored by the Infant Toddler Connection of Alexandria – Interagency Coordinating Council, Alexandria City Public Schools, Alexandria Community Services Board, Alexandria Health Department, and the Alexandria Department of Human Services.
