FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  September 19, 2008

State Insurance Counseling Program Offers Help on Medicare Benefits

Understanding the complexities of Medicare can be challenging. People with Medicare (or those who are soon to be eligible), families, and caregivers want and need immediate answers to questions about Medicare prescription benefit plans, Medicare supplemental insurance, and long-term care options.

On Wednesday, October 1, the Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) is offering a free Medicare seminar to residents of Arlington and Alexandria. It will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Beatley Central Library, 5005 Duke Street. VICAP is a state-run, federally administered program that provides free counseling, education and assistance in understanding the Medicare program. The insurance counseling program is designed to help Medicare beneficiaries become confident, informed consumers who are able to make the most of their Medicare benefits and make educated choices from a myriad of complex Medicare plan choices.

Beatley Central Library is accessible to persons with disabilities. Additional accommodations for persons with disabilities may be requested at least five business days in advance of the seminar. Pre-registration is required. For further information or to pre-register, please contact the Arlington Agency on Aging at 703.228.1700 (TTY 703.228.1788), or e-mail at Arlaa@arlingtonva.us. The Alexandria Office on Aging and the Arlington Agency on Aging are co-sponsoring this event.
