Center for Alexandria’s Children Hosts Family Fun Day
The Center for Alexandria’s Children (CAC), in partnership with the City of Alexandria, will host a Family Fun Day on Saturday, September 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at John Adams Elementary School, 5651 Rayburn Avenue. The free event will feature food, live entertainment, and a variety of informative and interactive exhibits and activities that provide useful information and resources to keep children safe and families strong. The event will take place rain or shine. Partnering City departments include the Department of Human Services; Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities; Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse; Alexandria Health Department; and Alexandria City Public Schools.
Specific events and entertainment for children will include: Harlem Globetrotters’ Spencer “Spinny” Johnson, music by the Grandsons and Doug Segree, a petting zoo, a moon bounce, face painting, and crafts. Digital identification kits for children will be available for parents through the Center for Alexandria’s Children and SafeAssured ID, a proactive safety program designed to provide rapid emergency response and peace of mind to loved ones. Additionally, interactive exhibits will provide parents with information designed to help keep their children healthy, safe and strong.
The co-chair of this event is Charles Mann, a Washington Redskins legend. Mann has a long history of involvement with organizations that focus on helping children. “Charles Mann has been such an inspiration to the community, both for his achievements on the playing field and his commitment to the children of Virginia,” says CAC Board Chair Nigel Morris. “We are so excited that he has agreed to be a part of this important event.” Mann will be taking photos with and signing autographs for children who attend the event.
The CAC is a public-private partnership dedicated to the elimination of child abuse in the City of Alexandria. The CAC protects children and strengthens families by coordinating the investigation, prosecution, treatment and prevention of child abuse in a single location that provides children with a safe and supportive environment. The CAC is grateful to the following local donors providing food and other in-kind contributions to make this event a success: Bittersweet Catering, Noodles and Company, and the Bradley Bagel Shop.
