City of Alexandria Holds Grand Opening of the Renovated Hunter-Miller Park Playground on Saturday, September 13

The City of Alexandria invites the public to join Mayor William D. Euille and members of City Council to celebrate and dedicate the opening of the renovated Hunter-Miller Park Playground, located at 224 N. Fayette St., on Saturday, September 13 at 8:30 a.m. The event will be held rain or shine.

In addition to the playground opening, ThinkFun, a local business providing mind-challenging games for youth and adults, and local day care providers will be providing information about their services beginning at 8 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Hunter-Miller Park is named for the late Bernard Hunter and Helen Miller, who were long time City residents and community activists. Helen Miller worked for many years to improve the playground at Queen and Fayette Streets, and was active in the civil rights movement, schools, church activities, the Police Department’s Community Action Team (CAT) and the Hopkins House Board. Bernard Hunter, a member of CAT, worked to ensure that the Queen and Fayette Playground had proper and safe equipment . While employed by the Hopkins House association, Hunter spent many hours in the community to provide residents with information on employment, housing and health care.
